American Flyer Locomotive 360 Santa Fe with wire handrails

The American Flyer Locomotive 360 and 361 lettered for the Santa Fe railroad made its debut in 1950 with a sheet metal tender and link coupler with black weight. Production stopped in 1952.

American Flyer had three basic types of diesel trucks. As American shifted from steam engines to diesel engines, naming convention moved away from the steam Whyte system and focused on Axels instead of wheels. GP7 trucks came with two powered axles, PA/PB trucks with simulated three powered axles (also used on the EP-5 Electric style locomotive) and the Baldwin diesel trucks had two powered axles. The F9 may have simply used the Baldwin trucks. This would make the GP7 locomotives B-B type, the PA/PB and electric locomotives C-C type and the Baldwins, B-B type also. F9’s probably B-B as well.

About 25 other American Flyer Diesel Locomotives were produced of the PA/PB electric motors. The PA/PB were similar to the American Flyer Locomotive 360. Here are some of the other PA/PB American Flyer Diesel Locomotives.
