American Flyer Hand Car 740

The hand car was one of the most popular components American Flyer produced. The American Flyer 740 Hand Car included an American Flyer Worm Drive engine.  Click here for a full list of the various American Flyer Motors.

Gilbert produced several versions of the Handcar. These included the following:
American Flyer 740 Hand Car
American Flyer 740A Hand Car
American Flyer 741 Hand Car
American Flyer Hand Car 742

The 740 Hand Car was made for just one year in 1952. The primary difference between it and the other versions that came out in later years was that it did not have a reversing unit. The later versions would automatically switch directions when they ran into something causing a gear to switch and the motor to work in reverse.
