Gilbert produced several versions of the Handcar. These included the following:
American Flyer 740 Hand Car
American Flyer 740A Hand Car
American Flyer 741 Hand Car
American Flyer 742 Hand Car
The 742 Hand Car was made for just one year in 1955. The primary difference between it and the earlier versions that had been produced was that it had a reversing unit. This enabled it to automatically switch directions when it ran into something causing a gear to switch and the motor to work in reverse.
