American Flyer Locomotive 354 Parts List & Diagram
This is the service bulletin and manual furnished by the A. C. Gilbert Co. to authorized service stations to aid them in the service and repair of American Flyer equipment. Specifically, this bulletin is for the American Flyer Locomotive 354 Pacific Silver Bullet.
American Flyer produced the 354 in 1954. It is different than the American Flyer Locomotive 356 Pacific Silver Bullet and the 350 Royal Blue.
Here are the main differences:
350 – No smoke or Choo-Choo and a Link Coupler, Blue
354 – Smoke and Choo-Choo and a Knuckle Coupler, Silver
356 – Smoke and Choo-Choo and a Link Coupler, Silver
The Silver Bullet Train had a metal tender and a plastic boiler. The Pacific designation meant that it had a 4-6-2 wheel configuration. The American Flyer Locomotive Pacific 4-6-2 would have had 4 leading, 6 driving, and 2 trailing wheels. There were 24 models of the Pacific 4-6-2 produced by Gilbert.
The American Flyer Locomotive 354 Pacific Silver Bullet was originally modeled after the Silver Bullet Express. Also known as the Sunday River Ski Train, was a privately owned and operated ski train that ran from Portland, Maine to Sunday River Ski Resort near Bethel, Maine.
