The Gilbert American Flyer Train Set 501T Atlantic was the cheapest train set with smoking unit and choo choo you could buy in 1951. The set featured an Atlantic type locomotive. Atlantic Locomotives included the American Flyer Locomotive Atlantic 4-4-2 would have had 4 leading, 4 driving, and 2 trailing wheels. There were 13 models of the Atlantic 4-4-2 produced by Gilbert.
The best feature of the set included uncouplers and that enabled you to uncouple the engine from the cars at the touch of the button. The “T” indicated that the set included the transformer. In this case it was the 125 Watt Varietal.
The American Flyer Train Set 501T included No. 302 Atlantic Locomotive and Tender, No. 640 Hopper Car, No 642 Box Car, and No. 638 Red Caboose, track, uncoupler, and a transformer.
